Your Health System website reveals Canadian health care statistics by hospital, region, province and territory

September 18, 2014—A unique website from the Canadian Institute for Health Information(CIHI) will allow Canadian hospitals, health regions, provinces and territories to compare how they measure up on 37 indicators related to access, quality of care, patient safety and emerging health trends across the country.

Your Health System—a web tool that will be available to the health sector and the general public on September 18—provides comparable and interactive data so that hospitals, regions, provinces and territories can compare themselves with peer groups and the pan-Canadian average. It includes numerous data sets in broad categories such as Social Determinants, Health Status, Appropriateness and Effectiveness, Safety and Access, to name a few.

Living for today

The suddena and untimely passing of Jim Flaherty has me thinking about the idea of putting off the things we intend to do some day.

Flaherty died suddenly only days after stepping down from public service with plans to enjoy more time with his family and to explore possibilities in the private sector. Neither will happen.

Years ago, just after 9-11 I met a man who had been at work in his office in one of the twin towers in New York. After the plane had hit the building he ran down the stairs, past the firefighters going the other direction.

I asked him whether the experience had changed his life. Here is what he told me.

About Jerry

Jerry Agar is the conservative host of the Jerry Agar Show which launched in 2010 and airs on NEWSTALK 1010 weekdays 9am to noon. He grew up in Gilbert Plains, Manitoba and started his radio career as an all-night DJ in Dauphin, Manitoba. He married an American and moved to the United States where he started his talk radio career in 2000 with a show in Raleigh, North Carolina.

From there he went to KMBZ in Kansas City and then to Chicago, where he worked on WLS in the morning, while doing an evening show for WABC in New York from studios in Chicago.

He was a writer for a think tank, The Illinois Policy Institute. He now does a weekly column for the Toronto Sun and occasionally appears as a commentator on Sun TV.
