Ford Weight Loss Challenge Expected to Start Next Week

Posted By: Russ Courtney · 1/7/2012 5:03:00 AM

Getting rid of gravy is one thing, but in 2012, brothers Rob and Doug Ford will be trying to get rid of chocolate milk and ice cream.

Not from the offices and hallways at city hall, but from their diets as part of a joint new year's resolution to drop a few pounds.

The hardest thing to cut back on for the mayor may be ice cream, while the councillor will be tempted to swig back chocolate milk.

"Those are the two deadly sins," says Doug Ford.

The Ford weight loss challenge is expected to start next week, when giant old fashioned scales will show up at the mayor's office for the first of periodic weigh-ins to measure progress.

"They are the only scales that would handle two heavyweights like Rob and I," says Ford.

While some may have already shelved their new year's resolution for 2012, Councillor Ford spoke about the idea on Newstalk 1010 over the holidays and seems to be sticking to the plan early in the new year.

"Rob has two young kids and I have four girls. We want to be around to watch them get married and be grandparents. If you're carrying this extra weight...it's not healthy. And we know that."

The plan as it stands now is to match up with one or more charities (they haven't decided on which ones yet) and give pledges and donations to those causes.

A kick off event is in the works for sometime next week.
