VIDEO: Police to launch pedestrian safety campaign
Toronto police will be focusing on pedestrian safety on Tuesday.
Between 7 and 9 a.m., officers will be introducing a campaign dubbed " Heads Up! Distraction Can Be Fatal."
Officers at Traffic Services say that pedestrians are often at fault in serious accidents and that many of the collisions are avoidable.
In 2011, more than 2,100 pedestrians were hit, 18 of them were killed.
Police are asking people to keep their eyes off their smartphone screens and stay alert at all times when walking on sidewalks and roads.
