Ottawa police have confirmed that a human foot was sent in a package to the headquarters of the Conservative Party of Canada in Ottawa.

Const Marc Soucy says police were called at about 11 a.m. Tuesday for a suspicious package. He says an employee only partially opened the package before calling 911.

The coroner has confirmed that the item inside was a human foot.  

Ottawa police's major crimes unit is now investigating.

Const Soucy says police will be investigating possible motives, as well as whether the foot belongs to someone who was murdered.

He says Ottawa police will be contacting forces in other cities, investigating possible links to homicides or suspicious incidents, including the discovery of a torso in Montreal on Tuesday.
