Five people have been injured in a serious crash on the eastbound 401.

A truck and two cars were involved in the accident that happened near Dixie Rd just before 6 a.m. Saturday.

OPP Sgt Dave Woodford tells Newstalk 1010 that it appears a Toyota Corolla collided into the back of a truck, causing the truck driver to lose control.

The truck crashed through a cement barrier and drove off the overpass onto a grassy area below, next to the Etobicoke Creek. The truck then burst into flames.

Three of those injured were in the two cars also involved. The truck driver is the only person with serious injuries.

The fifth person who was injured is a jogger who is being treated for smoke inhalation from the fire.

Anyone who saw the accident is asked to call the OPP.
