Parents upset over school survey

Posted By: Justine Lewkowicz · 6/18/2012 5:33:00 AM

Some east-end parents are upset over a survey that was given to their kids from Guildwood Junior Public School.

The Toronto Sun reports that the survey asks students to agree, disagree or stay neutral on 124 questions.

The questions include whether the students are worried about their future. One parent says her daughter wasn't, but she is now.

Another example is, "I like who I am, and I am special to others."

School officials say the purpose of the survey that was given to more than 120 schools is to determine whether kids are satisfied with after-school activities.

One parent tells the Sun she's upset she wasn't notified about the survey.

It's an absolute how outrage!! How dare the schools ask kids what they think without parental permission....

FYI TDSB does notify parents, but they do not tell parents what the content of the survey is. Watse of money, most kids do not know the answers to the questions so the information collected is NOT accurate!

Guildwood is a K-6 school, so unless they are asking only grades 5-6 I can't see them getting any accurate information out of any survey. Plus, it's one thing if the survey were say 40 questions, but 124 is ridiculous. Don't these kids have other things to do? even if summer break is soon.

this is only to benefit unions in pushing their agenda, nothing to do with students or teachers' caring about their students. their only concern is increasing their funding for what they want.

if they really cared and really wanted their students to succeed we wouldn't allow teachers who continually cancel appointments with kids who ask for help, or berate kids asking for help because the teachers feel they're already doing well.

why are these useless teachers still in the school system? 1 good teacher who truly cares about their students is worth 10 lousy teachers, and it's those lousy teachers who always complain, always ready to strike. you don't hear that about the passionate teachers and those are the teachers we remember 30 years later that made a real difference in our lives.

So...who's survey is it? TDSB, Ontario Ministry of Education, or Stephen Harper's tentacles?
