VIDEO: Summer Election Avoided As Budget Passes

Posted By: Katie Franzios · 6/20/2012 3:36:00 PM

You can all breathe a sigh of relief: there will be no provincial this summer.

This comes after Queen's Park passed the budget bill by a vote of 52-35.

The NDP abstained from the vote, after noting even this new-look budget wasn't what they were hoping for. However during debate, NDP Finance Critic Michael Prue said he's glad they were able to tweak it.

There was two hours of debate and another hour of question period before the vote.

Premier Dalton McGuinty and PC leader Tim Hudak got into a fiery exchange over the financial plan, with Hudak maintaining the Tories couldn't support the plan, maintaining it had failed. He asked McGuinty to review some of the PCs "bold" ideas over the summer.

"The ideas aren't bold, they're just old." countered the Premier.

The budget bill received royal assent immediately, ending the main budget process.
