World's Biggest Bookstore To Close

Posted By: Dave Bradley · 6/20/2012 9:37:00 PM

Chalk up another point for the e-reader.

But in this game, the big loser is the bookstore.

Now, The World's Biggest Bookstore is the latest in the long line of victims of the new technology.

The Toronto Star is reporting the store near Yonge and Dundas is slated to close by December of 2013, after the owners cited a lack of business and lower profits.

The store has been there for 25 years, and at one time featured 20 kilometers of bookshelves.

It will close when the lease expires.

Does that mean that local small bookstores will finally beat out that Indigo monstrosity?

Why do you say the "owners" and again said "the owners" on the radio? It is owned by Indigo/Chapters. Why not just say that?

I remember school trips to this store. I haven't been in a while but I admit I am a bit sad to see it go.

Is the BMV next door going to close as well?

I'm conflicted because I don't like the idea of yet another condo, but getting rid of a big box store that supports Zionism is a good thing!
