A neighbourhood in Scarborough is trying to fathom how a brazen daytime shooting could happen on their doorstep.

On Saturday morning, police tape still surrounded an area on Glamorgan Avenue, near Kennedy and Ellesmere Roads, after a fatal shooting the day before.

Just behind the apartment complex at 6 Glamorgan is a playground that has been empty since a 30-year-old man was shot and killed in a parking lot mere feet away.

Police say a group of five to seven men had a loud argument before shots rang out. The group took off after the shooting in two separate cars, leaving the victim behind. Police are now looking for a white four-door Honda Accord and a black sedan seen speeding away.

The victim has not been identified by police, but family members say Ricardo Vincent leaves behind a seven-year-old son.

Two other men, meanwhile, are recovering after a separate shooting Friday night near the DVP and York Mills Rd. It happened on Valley Woods Rd.

Meanwhile, the neighbourhood is in shock.

Most residents in the area prefer to get an eyeful of the crime scene from the safety and seclusion of their balconies, looking down at the street as City and police vehicles come and go.

Helen has lived in the area for 15 years and says an incident like this is completely unexpected.

"I think its really sad that people care so little for life and would just as soon shoot at you than look at you," she says.

Helen is quick to add that she still thinks the neighbourhood is safe, for the most part.

"I just go and do what I need to do and I feel safe but now with this (incident), I will kind of double-think it."

"When you get people coming into the neighbourhood that really don't live here, you don't know what to expect because you don't know them," she says.

The victim's father is pleading with the community for help.

Norris Vincent wants anybody who saw what happened to step up and tell authorities any small detail that might lead them to the person who killed his son.

Vincent paid a visit to the crime scene mere hours after the shooting.

He looked exhausted as he talked to police officers nearby.

No charges have been laid.
