School workers told to help campaign for trustees, Liberals
The Toronto Star has released more details from its investigation into the TDSB and school construction and maintenance workers.
The paper reports that workers were being told by union bosses last year to campaign for school board trustees and some Liberal MPPs.
One carpenter tells the Star he was asked by the trades council to take a pile of lawn signs in his truck last September, drive around and pound them into front lawns. He refused and says he has received no more work for school repairs.
The paper also reports that Jimmy Hazel, who runs the Maintenance and Construction Skilled Trades Council, along with affiliates has raised more than $100-thousand for trustees and Liberal MPPs in four years. The council has an exclusive contract for work at the TDSB.
