A stretch of McCowan Road between Davis Drive and Harold Road in East Gwillimbury has been shut down for the next couple hours due to a fatal one-vehicle crash.

York Regional Police say a van lost control there and swereved into a ditch a little before 10:00 pm, ejecting two occupants. 

Emergency responders found one of those two people unconscious and not breathing, the other was critically injured and rushed to Sunnybrook Hospital. Police confirm that one of those people has died of their injuries.

Police are currently on-scene investigating for a cause.
