An elderly man is dead after being struck by a car early Monday morning.

Police say it was just before 4:30 on Timberlane Drive. It's in the McLaughlin Road and Ray Lawson Boulevard area.

Police tell NewsTalk 1010 the victim was a man in his 80's who was on his way to a mosque at the time, and that it was a hit and run.

Peel Police Constable Thomas Ruttan says they are looking for a dark vehicle with some type of damage to the front end of it, but they aren't sure of its model or make.

"The vehicle is going to have sustained damage to the bumper or possibly to the windshield, " says Ruttan.

Ruttan say they've managed to seize video from the mosque and are hoping that they can tell what kind of vehicle was involved, and are hoping that the suspect will come forward.

"We would also like to make an appeal to the person responsible for this, I would like you to seek out some representation and turn yourself in, rather than have us seek you out."

Ruttan says they're asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision to call them.
