Sunday Storms Cause Flooding & Lightning Strikes
Hopefully you didn't get stuck outside during Sunday afternoon's thunderstorms in the GTA.
Environment Canada estimates about 75 millimetres of rain fell causing flooding and at least one mudslide. The Bayview extension near the Brick Works and low lying areas in the lower reach of the Don River were flooded, prompting the Toronto and Region Conservation to issue a flood warning.
Some underpasses, especially at Windemere in the west side of the city, were impassable for a time. There was a sinkhole on the property of a homeowner on Greenbrae Circuit, northwest of Markham and Lawrence and a mudslide along Danforth opposite Kalmar Avenue.
Besides the rain, lightning proved to be a major issue. Environment Canada says there were about 20-thousand lightning strikes across Southern Ontario in dozens of storms. One of which, was at the Whitby Rib Fest where 17 people were sent to hospital with minor burns and injuries.
