Mayor Says He's "Shocked and Disgusted" by Shooting

Posted By: Michelle Rosa · 7/17/2012 5:57:00 AM

The shooting at a community barbecue is making waves throughout Toronto with reaction pouring in from the Mayor and city councillors.

Mayor Ford has released a statement:
I am shocked and disgusted by this senseless act of violence. I want to make sure residents rest assured that this horrific, criminal behaviour will not be tolerated in our city. On behalf of all Toronto residents, I extend my thoughts and prayers to the victims, their families and friends.

City councillor Adam Vaughan has also voiced his outrage over this violent shooting. He was a guest on Newstalk 1010 saying, "This is beyond shocking. We have a situation that must be addressed in this city and it requires all hands on deck. Our hearts go out, but our heads have to turn to how do we deal with this? This is a pattern that is becoming too dangerous and absolutely unacceptable."

He continued, "We cannot continue to create a city that creates this kind of violence. We have got to simply do more than talk tough to criminals, we have to go to fix the problems in the neighbourhoods where these things occur and we have to do it now."

Adam Vaughan " we have to go to fix the problems in the neighbourhoods where these things occur and we have to do it now."
How do you propose to do that, Adam? If Mr. Vaughan is going to say something, I wish it would not be filled with hot air!

Waiting for adam vaughan to complain ford has been invisible and not doing his job. also waiting for vaughan to complain his genius idea of banning bullets was shot down at city hall

we should all be thankful the gun ranges were all closed down; i'm sure there would be more violence otherwise.

oh, and let's thank the gun registry the liberal feds put into place for billions. i'm sure the guns used were registered to the shooters

We have a gang problem in Toronto. Gangs take on a culture and life of their own. The problem is that we have been addressing the issue as a poverty issue. These "solutions" are not going to bust up gangs or alter the gang mindset. We need to address the issue head on and look at ways to eliminate/neutralize gangs. This is a crime issue, not a poverty issue. Youth engagement programs are not going to eliminate gangs. Perhaps such a program may prevent a youngster from joining a gang in the future but this will do nothing to eliminate the gangs that exist today. The province must bring its resources to bear against violent street gangs today.
