G-20 Activist Sentenced to 11-Months Behind Bars

Posted By: David Woodard · 7/19/2012 3:50:00 PM

An unrepentant woman who played an active part in the vandalism that rocked Toronto during the G20 summit two years ago has been given 11 months in jail.

The judge says Kelly Pflug-Back was among dozens of protesters who used black bloc tactics in what he called a well-planned window-smashing rampage through downtown Toronto in June 2010.

Pflug-Back had pleaded guilty to seven counts of mischief and one of wearing a disguise with criminal intent.

Video and photographic evidence showed Pflug-Back - clad in black and her face covered - taking a pole to store windows, a police cruiser and an ATM.

The defence had pressed for a conditional sentence, while the Crown urged the judge to sentence Pflug-Back to up to two years.

The police crackdown as a result of the vandalism led to more than 1,100 arrests - many of innocent bystanders - resulting in charges against some of the officers involved.

Mob mentality. Anyone who knows anything can understand it. Some call it peer pressure, but we all know that it is doing something that, with a rational mind, the perpetrator would not usually do. This is all that this girl did in my mind.

Realistically, we would love to hold every person in the world, especially the youth, to a certain standard where we'd hope they would not cave to peer pressure - but, the thing we see all too often is that they always do.

@Nathanael Lewis Peer pressure my ass, we should all no right from wrong. THeir is a right way and a awrong way to effect change. Just because you are a little spolied instant gratification type doesnt mean you need to destroy other peoples property. Shes lucky that wasnt my property. Just because buddy goes and jumps in a lake will you. Mob mentality my ass. Who raised her wolves or hermits?

@Nathanael Lewis so if she got drunk and beat up someone then it is the alcohol's fault? Sorry---alcohol only brings out what is already present and hey guess what? The lack of respect and willingness to destroy on part of the mob only brought out this woman's inherent willingness to destroy. Peer pressure exists---but it can only influence what is already there.

Yes she was really pressured. I think she needs a swift kick in the ass, or maybe a public flogging. I hope she has to pay back the individuals who owned the property she destroyed. I cant fathom why people do this.

Yet as a soldier I have seen people all over the world displaying objectionable behavior and justifying their actions, because it served therir purpose. I have always felt that rather than throwing hand greandes or acting out you should try to change the world by getting involved not acting out against it, because you are uniformed and frustrated.

This young woman needs a wake up call, jail wont do that, hopefully she has a persobnal epiphany. She better not cross my path, or I will give her that epiphany.

I wonder how many critics in this thread own an illegal music download on their mp3 player, or have helped themselves to a free pen at work. It is easy to say, 'but that's different', however, wrong is wrong and right is right...black and white. While I don't condone, I will not condemn.
