Councillor Wants to Evict Criminals From TCHC Buildings
In the wake of the mass shootings at the Danzig Street public housing complex last week, there's a new push to get aggressive with drug dealers and prostitutes living in public housing.
City councillor, Frances Nunziata, a member of the board of directors at Toronto Community Housing Corporation has had enough. She questions why the city is housing these people if they are known to be dealing drugs or prostituting in the community?
The outraged councillor thinks it's time to start booting these people from community housing, something she says is made extremely difficult under the current tenant laws and a process that takes far too long.
the TCHC's Tenant and Community Services Committee meets on Wednesday to discuss safety concerns that were brought forth by tenants at town hall meetings held in April.
This will only be something that will provide more motivation to get these people out of the housing system, according to Nunziata who tells The Sun, "I know all the apartment numbers of all the drug dealers and the prostitutes (in the building) but we can't evict them."
