Not much cause for celebration for Canadian Olympians in London on Day 1.
It was bitter disappointment instead for swimmer Ryan Cochrane. He secured the a spot in the 400m freestyle final, after Park Tae-hwan of South Korea was disqualified for a false start.
But after a review of video of the race, the defending champ was re-instated, bumping Cochrane to a 9th place finish & out of the final. The South Korean swimmer ended up with a silver medal in the final.
Scott Dickens, Alec Page, Katerine Savard, Stephanie Horner & the women's 4-100m freestyle relay team failed to advance in other events in the pool.
ROWING
Canada's men's 8 struggled. The defending Olympic champs finished in last spot in their heat. They'll have another shot at advancing to the final in the repechage round. The men's double sculls will need the repechage too.
