Mall Security Increasing Efforts to Keep Pets Safe in Parking Lots

Posted By: Russ Courtney · 8/4/2012 12:34:00 PM

On a scorching hot August long weekend, security at Vaughan Mills Mall are stationed outside entrances asking those heading inside from the parking lot if they've left pets in their cars.

It comes after a dog died in the mall parking lot earlier this summer after being left in a hot car.

A young couple in their 20s faces charges in the death of the chocolate lab mix on June 10th.

The initiative will continue on weekends for the rest of the summer.

The Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals told Newstalk 1010 earlier this week that they've been getting more calls the usual this year for dogs left in hot cars, attributed to a number of high profile cases this summer.

The OSPCA also announced a charge for a Kingston man after a dog was left in a hot car at the Queen's Quay Loblaws on June 21st.
