UPDATE: Peel Police Find Woman's Severed Head and Foot at Hewick Meadows Park
Just after noon Thursday, Peel police say they have uncovered a woman's severed head in the Credit River, near the area where a severed woman's foot was found Wednesday.
Police can't say if the head and foot are from the same person, but Acting Inspector Randy Cowan says it is likely that's the case. Both the head and foot have been taken to the centre of forensic sciences to be examined.
"It appears to be the foot of a female. It's the right foot. Distinctive on this foot was the yellow nail polish. That's the only reason we believe it's female at this point, was that there was bright yellow nail polish on the toes of the foot."
Cowan says they are investigating this discovery as foul play.
He can't say how old the woman was based on the head and foot alone, but says the remains do not appear to be those of a child.
There has been heightened awareness anytime body parts are found since Montreal student Jun Lin's human remains started appearing across the country leading to charges of first degree murder laid against Luka Magnotta.
