An 8-year old boy is dead after being hit by a car at the Ontario Science Centre.

The crash happened in a parking lot just outside the building around 11:30am Saturday.

The child was taken to Sick Kids Hospital and the 36-year old mother was sent to Sunnybrook.

Toronto Police the child passed away a short time later.  The mother is still in serious condition.

Its not clear what went wrong but authorities say the car was backing up when the father somehow lost control.

Reports say police have footage from the parking lot security cameras and are looking it over.

Nobody else was seriously hurt.
