Teen Makes History in Swim Across Lake Ontario
14 year old Annaleise Carr became the youngest person to ever swim from Niagara on the Lake to Toronto across Lake Ontario.
The teenager completed the swim Sunday night as she splashed to the shore in Toronto after dark.
Carr set off from Niagara on the Lake Saturday evening and had to plow through waves as high as 1.5 metres at times. Carr, who is from the tiny community of Walsh in southern
Ontario, spent nearly 27 hours in the water and swimming a distance of 52 kilometres.
Part of the reason behind her swim was to raise money for Camp Trillium, a childhood cancer support centre. Her original goal was to raise $30-thousand, but she exceeded that last week, so then she set a goal of $50-thousand. More good news when that goal was blown out of the water by a single donor who pledged $10,000.
So far, Carr has raised over $80,000 for Camp Trillium.
