Community Safety Report Looks at Long- and Short-Term: Source
Wednesday is the day the McGuinty government's report on community safety will be released. The Premier announced plans for what's being called "Ontario's Youth Action Plan" last month after his meeting with Mayor Rob Ford and Police Chief Bill Blair on escalating gun violence in the city.
A source tells Newstalk 1010 the plan will feature what is being called a balanced approach, looking to expand opportunities available for youth, all while making sure immediate actions are being taken to make communities safer.
This is expected to build on the Premier's July 23rd announcement to extend TAVIS funding and grants for community groups.
Minister of Children and Youth Services Eric Hoskins and Community Safety Minister Madeleine Meilleur have heard from hundreds of people for the report: youth, their families, community groups and even the private sector. Those from all over the province were also encouraged to weigh-in online.
