OPP Charge Rubbernecking Drivers

Posted By: Michelle Rosa · 8/22/2012 6:07:00 AM

How many times have you been stuck in traffic on the highway, only to pass the situation and realize, it's nothing more than a minor fender-bender? Well, those who rubberneck are getting a loud and clear message from the O.P.P.

This past Monday, 21 drivers were charged with distracted driving along the 401 as officers were attending a collision in Napanee.

Two tractor-trailers were involved, and as drivers passed the scene, some were caught slowing down and using their hand held devices to take pictures of the wreckage.

Further to that, officers spotted a driver who was taking a photo of it, while steering with his elbows. One other driver sent a text message while driving at highway speeds and O.P.P. say, that can mean driving the length of a football field, without looking at the road once.

Distracted driving carries a fine of $155 dollars.

I get it, we all hate it.....but if the officers standing on the side of the road handing out the tickets were to assist in getting the accident off the road it would be a heck of a lot more productive than this money grab

And when an officer was interviewed on this very radio station as to why Mayor Rob Ford would not be charged for reading while driving, he answered that the law only applies to electronic devices. Apparently there is no law against reading paper media while driving. So now it turns out THERE IS a charge of being distracted after all. One law for some, another for little people. Media news has short memory not to put these two stories together.
