Marineland Claims CAZA Has Cleared Them of any Wrongdoing

Posted By: Michelle Rosa · 8/24/2012 5:57:00 AM

According to Marineland, CAZA has wrapped up their inspection of the park and have given their facilities a rave review.

Marineland sent out a press release Thursday night, claiming The Canadian Association of Zoos and Aquariums said staff there were extremely helpful and answered all of their questions.

As for the overall health of their animals, the release claims CAZA said they were in very good condition and experts noted, "The use of specialists in addressing these issues is commendable," and Marineland is also "participating in an active research program investigating pinniped eye diseases." However, there has been no release directly from CAZA.

The OSPCA finished their initial inspection Wednesday, but maintain their investigation of Marineland is not over. They have not released any of their findings yet.

Marineland came under fire after allegations of poorly treated animals and poor water conditions in an investigation by the Star.

I'm glad to hear this! I hope it's true. I hated to think that these poor animals were not being treated well. I would hope that these animals are treated as well as possible! I would pay more in admission prices if I knew that the money was going to make sure that the animals had all the medical treatment needed, healthy food and excellent living conditions.

Will the Toronto Star and all the other naysayers (posters on these blogs) who were so quick to judgement now retract and apologise for their attack on Marineland's integrity?
The Star can start by offering a free ad to Marineland in their weekend edition.

Neither CAZA nor the OSPCA have cleared Marineland of these charges to date. Furthermore, regardless of whether or not these animals are being neglected, it is CRUEL and WRONG to keep them in captivity for profit and human entertainment. Do you think the SOLE orca kept at Marineland, all alone, enjoys swimming in circles in a small tank without the companionship of a pod? Stop taking your children to these parks - you are teaching them nothing more than how you believe we are superior to these amazing creatures and that cruelty is ok so long as we're being entertained.

@CLH What's wrong? You seem upset that it has been determined that the animals were not abused or mistreated. If you disagree with wild animals being kept in captivity that is understandable and a valid pov, However it is not necessary to target and attack zoos or marine parks with misinformation to further that agenda.

CLH is 100% right. "According to Marineland" means just that. They've released information that is false. Both Associations are still investigating.
