Police Call Homeless Murder 'Very Personal'

Posted By: David Woodard · 8/29/2012 1:40:00 PM

Toronto Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward, after a 24-year-old homeless man was killed, and found near train tracks on Friday.

The body of George Fawell was found in an area behind Jimmie Simpson Arena on Queen Street East.  Police say the victim was stabbed 'several' times in the checst and neck.

Toronto homicide detective Gary Giroux said this was one of the most vicious cases he has ever come across, adding it took the coroner's office several hours to document all of the external injuries.

He says the attack was 'sustained' and Fawell likely had died before the attack was done.  Giroux also believes the attack was very personal, and that there may be more than one suspect in the case.

Police say people in the area are co-operating with investigators, but Giroux admits that someone knows something, and isn't coming forward.

Is it any wonder why people don't come forward? Because they don't want the same happening to them. Witnesses know the sad reality of becoming the next victim(s) of the spineless cowards that murdered this homeless man.

@LuminolBlue The witnesses that wont come forward are also spineless cowards! If the community they serve are not willing to stand up for justice there is only so much the police can do...

One of the greatest threats to our society is that people are losing (or have lost) faith in the ability of the police to protect them. Since citizens are discouraged and prevented from taking the necessary steps to defend themselves, the name of the game becomes hazard avoidance at all cost - aka: F.I.D.O.
