String of Sex Assaults Prompt Police to Issue an Alert
Police patrols in the Spadina-College and Bloor and Christie areas has been beefed up after a string of reported sex assaults, and they appear to all have the same suspect.
They began on July 4, then near Denison Square and Augusta Ave and on August 19 two more incidents happened close to the intersections of Bloor and Christie. The last reported assault was at Bloor and Grace on Wednesday. There were six incidents and in all of them, the victims were women between the ages of 16 and 26.
Police say they are approached from behind and attacked and a "sexual assault alert" has been issued.
The suspect descriptions in the attacks all consist of a black man with a medium to stocky build, and between the ages of 17 and 35.
Meantime, The mayor's niece made a comment on Twitter about it. One hour after the news conference, Krista Ford tweeted: "stay alert, walk tall, carry mace, take self-defence classes and don't dress like a whore."
That was deleted from her page late Wednesday night.
Alice Moran, one of the victims of the string of assaults, wrote an Open Letter to Ms. Krista Ford on Facebook criticizing the former Lingerie Football League's choice of words. You can read it here.
