Man Claims TTC Streetcar Operator was Canoodling and Driving

Posted By: Michelle Rosa · 8/30/2012 5:55:00 AM

We've already heard about TTC drivers talking on their cell phones while on duty, texting or taking washroom breaks and keeping passengers waiting, but what about canoodling?

A man tells the Toronto Sun that he boarded the Queen streetcar two weeks ago at Greenwood, only to find the streetcar operator "canoodling" with a very attractive woman.

It was around 5 p.m. when Chris VanKeefe boarded the bus and saw the woman sitting so close to the driver, that it looked like she may have been on his lap. The driver was facing her, and not the entrance to the car. Furthermore, VanKeffe says she was blocking the driver's view of the right-hand mirror.

He claims she would move away for passengers to pay their fares, but then go right back to kissing and cuddling with the driver and that persisted from Greenwood to Pape, where VanKeffe got off the bus. He claims all the other passengers on board were shaking their heads in disbelief.

VanKeffe didn't have a phone where he could capture the footage of the incident, but he did call the TTC to file a complaint. he was told video footage from the streetcar couldn't be used to verify his claim because of privacy issues.

Since then,  TTC chairman Karen Stintz has asked for an investigation after she was contacted by the man, and CEO Andy Byford says he's aware of the incident and they are "actively" pursuing an investigation.

Don't you just love union conditions that public sector management (and politicians) accept. They can't use the video footage to prove this driver was fooling around with a woman WHILE DRIVING!

Another example of the inmates running the asylum!

Indeed. Their own rules prohibit the use of their video to check on their own employees. Only if requested by police during an investigation of a "crime" having been committed do the TTC release the video (under subpoena I expect). How are the police going to determine a "crime" when so far it's only an account from one passenger? Chicken & egg problem. TTC union is not forthcoming until forced by law.

Seems their surveillance cameras are only there to nail passengers - because drivers can do no wrong. LOLOL
