Dufferin-Peel Catholic Elementary Teachers Vote to Strike
Elementary school teachers with the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board have voted more than 90% in favour of taking strike action if there are no improvements in labour talks.
Dufferin-Peel (OECTA) Elementary President David Dolan was going to recommend that his more than 3 thousand members accept a new contract like the one agreed to in principle with the province, but the board instead has filed for a conciliator.
If a no-board report is issued, 17 days later, the board could impose new terms on teachers, and Dolan says it's a potential concern that those terms could be worse than the provincial deal.
He seems to suggest the job action is a last resort, to protect his members in the event that the board does try to impose a new deal.
A report has not been issued, so it's unlikely that any job action will take place in September.
Dolan says he does not want the educational experience disrupted.
