Councillor wants to lift limit on pets
The city will hold public consultations this fall on the pet bylaw as staff look for possible amendments.
Councillor Glenn de Baeremaker tells the Toronto Star he hopes staff will propose to get rid of the limit on the number of pets you can own.
The bylaw states you can only own six pets per household, including three dogs, as a way to prevent hoarding.
De Baeremaker says the issue should be about how someone takes care of their cats and dogs and not about how many they own.
He says other parts of the bylaw can deal with people who don't take care of their animals.
The public consultations will be held on September 11 and 13.
