60-Year Old Woman Abandons Swim Across Lake Ontario
It was just two weeks ago that 14 year old Annaleise Carr became the youngest person to swim from Niagara to Marilyn Bell Park in Lake Ontario. A 60 year old woman who was trying to do the same thing, had to abandon her swim Thursday night.
Colleen Shields of Georgetown was pulled out of the water around 8 o'clock because of strong winds and exhaustion. She started the swim at 6 a.m. on Wednesday.
Shields had successfully completed that same swim in 2006, but lost the title as the oldest person to complete that stretch, after 57-year-old William Saldo completed it.
This was her fifth attempt at getting her title back.
