GTA to get soaked
Toronto's Water Department is worried about the big soak the city's in for this weekend.
Up to 20mm worth are expected to come down Friday, with as much as 20mm more by Saturday night.
General Manager of the Water Department, Lou Di Gironimo says if the rain comes all at once, the city could be in trouble. He says our infrastructure just isn't designed to handle that much rain in a short period of time.
It doesn't help that parts of the city saw record-setting rainfall on Tuesday. With the ground already saturated, there may be nowhere for this weekend's rain to go.
Di Gironimo says city crews will be checking up on 32 spots across the city that traditionally have problems with flooding. They include places like Etobicoke, the Beaches, & Leaside. City staffers may also be hauled in to work on the weekend or asked to work overtime to deal with any problems that crop up.
Di Gironimo says you can help out by making sure catch basins where you live are clear of any leaves, branches or garbage.
The city is still looking into potential sewer makeovers in 18 of the 32 flooding danger zones.
