Teen Dies After Collapsing on Football Field
A tragic story from Brampton where a Grade 12 student is dead after an injury he suffered during an exhibition football game.
St. Thomas Aquinas student Gene Odulio apparently was leaving the huddle Friday afternoon on the field when he collapsed.
He was rushed to Sunnybrook Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries Sunday.
The school sent home a letter to parents on Monday detailing the grim news, saying their "thoughts and prayers are with Gene, his family, friends and...school community during this difficult time."
Dufferin/Peel Catholic School Board spokesman Bruce Campbell says Odulio was well-liked and the reaction to news of his death proved that.
He says the school board has made counsellors available for students and staff.
Campbell says there are visitations set up at Brampton Memorial Gardens for Friday, September 14th from 4-8pm and Sunday, September 16th from 2-6pm. The funeral is set for Brampton Memorial Gardens on Tuesday September 18th, at 1:30 pm.
