Brampton Council Wants Ban on Front-Yard Laundry

Posted By: Michelle Rosa · 9/13/2012 5:53:00 AM

How would you like it if the city was telling you how to do your laundry?

In Brampton, city councillors want to pass a bylaw that will prohibit anyone from hanging their wet clothes out to dry on their front yard, including banisters.

This all began last fall when residents were complaining about how it detracts from the beauty of the city. City staff have been asked to put together a report. Staffers had suggested that a bylaw wasn't necessary for this, but they were overruled at a council meeting on Sept. 5.

For the most part, Brampton residents seem okay with it. A recent poll showed 75 percent in favour of the ban.

O-BROTHER.........Is that really an important item they have to worry about. I am sure there are more important things to pass or to spend money on writing a report.
A recent poll? I have lived in Brampton for over 16 years and have NEVER had been asked to vote in a poll about Brampton issues.

Drying Laundry out in the Sun is a definitive step towards saving the energy, thus using natural resource - Sun and Going Green!

Drying Laundry in the Front Yard, might give a non-scenic look to some people! I hope there should not be any ban for drying laundry in the Backyard.

Here is the link, why one should dry their laundry in the sun:

@SS It is now illegal in the province of Ontatio for a municipality to ban laundry drying in back or side yards, so don't worry about that happening.

Far be it for me to tell anyone how to do their laundry, but I am wondering, though, who has so much laundry to hang out that their back and/or side yards are so full that one needs to start hanging things in their front yard.
