Group Wants To Screen Controverisal Film in Toronto

Posted By: Dave Bradley · 9/13/2012 3:52:00 PM

With violence continuing around the world, the Canadian Hindu Advocacy appears ready to try and spur on some of that violence here in Toronto.

It surrounds a controversial film, that depicts the prophet mohammed as a womanizer and a madman.

Ron Banerjee spoke with Jim Richards on Newstalk1010 Thursday afternoon, outlining how he wishes to screen that movie here in this city.

He doesn't have a location for a screening, but Barerjee says they'll also show snippets from other movies that are  films that areoffensive to Christians and Hindus.

He calls it a way of fighting intollerance.

At least one caller into the show called Banerjee, "a vile disgusting little man, who wants to bring violence to this country."

Banerjee says he has the praise of Pastor Terry Jones, the Florida Pastor who once burned a copy of the Qu'ran.

Where are you getting your news from? The attacks were planned more than one week before in retaliation of the drone killing of Al Libi, Al Qaeda no.2 in Libya.

I strongly admire Mr. Banerjee for his courage in fighting for our right to free speech.

More than 3,000 Bibles were burned by the U.S. marines in Afghanistan not so long ago. Are we going around killing everybody? There was an exhibition of the crucifix bottled in urine. Did we go around killing everybody? Almost every day, I read about persecuted Christians, non muslim villages being burnt to the ground, churches attacked in Europe by muslims, entire european towns emptied of its local populations, sharia being implemented everywhere etc.

Christians are being stoned in Michigan by mobs of muslims. Apostates are being attacked in the U.S. Sudden jihad syndrome in the U.S. is increasing every day.

And you idiots worry about a cheap movie that so happens to depict the truth or walking a dog on a sidewalk?

What you people have not understood is if we don't defend our basic right of free expression now, we will lose it very soon. You will be the reason behind it. I'm sure your kids will be proud.

@Susan K Susan, it seems that you are probably a Christian. Ask yourself:WWJD
What Would Jesus Do? Would he have or did he ever retaliate in kind for any insults or indignities he suffered? Take the high road. Do not deliberately insult other people's faith by mocklng their holy men or organizing a parade of animals that are abhorrent to Muslims; "Vengeance is Mine, sayeth the Lord" that means, Vengeance is His, not yours. if you are a Christian, then act like one. Lead by your good example.

I am a Hindu. Ron Banerjee does not represent me or the vast majoritiy of Hindus. He is not worthy of being called Mister. He is on the lunatic fringe, baiting and mocking Muslims every chance he gets. Hindus believe that "Truth is One, but sages called by many names" Rig Veda.
Although there are pockets of Muslim/Hindu conflict in India. for the most part everyone gets along. I am familiar with a Muslim/Hindu family here in Toronto. The father is a practicing Muslim, the mother is a practicing Hindu, they have 2 sons, one is a Hindu, the other a Muslim. The all support each other during the holy days of each religion.
I don't know why Ron Banerjee is such an islamophobe. But he does not represent me. or mainstream Hindus.

I will be happy to go on any show and answer any questions you might have.

@BirgitA BIRGIT: Anyone that dishes out the word 'islamophobe' on a regular basis is not equiped to debate the issue. You will be torn to shreds by anyone who knows the qur'an, the sira and the hadiths. Also, the same for anyone that follows world events.

In reply to your quote 'Vengeance is Mine, sayeth the Lord', I write: 'Heaven helps those who help themselves'.

This man does not speak for Hindu's, he is just looking for his own personal publicity and the media should avoid this "nut".

A real Hindu would not purposely try to insult people of any group or cause friction among people during these sensitive types. He is not an "artist" trying to promote free speech or discussion, he is in it for himself.

Shame. Your group is a farce and doesn't represent members of any community, let alone Hindus in Canada.

why do you even bother giving this guy air time? Are you becoming a tabloid, chasing sensational stories? If you do have him in the air could you not for once engage in balanced reporting and ask respected leaders of the Hindu community to comment?

The movie is ridiculous and anyone that watches it and takes any part of it seriously is deranged - in my opinion. I am Christian and if anyone made that type of film about my God I would just think they're a nut case and didn't know what they were talking about. To watch the thousands of men going absolutely crazy and storming the Lybian Embassy is totally absurd. The very thought that a stupid, idiotic, senseless, tasteless short film might cause an 'uproar' in the middle east is just mind boggling. As far as Mr. what's his name wanting to bring the film and show it in Toronto to further the cause of tolerance, give it up! What a stupid idea. It cannot do any good, it can only do harm. Is there not some way he can be prohibited from doing this? Freedom of speech, bring it on - I am able to write this note because of it. Why can't we just all get along kids? Quite honestly, I am sick and tired of catering to the needs, the whims, of other 'cultures' who either come here 'for a better life' or are born in Canada but are raised by people who should just mind their own business. Oh and one other quick point "Men and Women" instead of "ladies and gentlemen", whose brainchild was that one! Leave well enough alone. I'm just feeling so disgusted with the world right now.

I don’t see how Banerjee would necessarily spur on violence at all. By showing the film it could only demonstrate that some Muslims aren’t prone to immediate violence. Or are we to continue to believe they are? If he goes ahead and shows other films that may inflame Christians – bring it on. We already know we aren’t in the 12th century any more. That's a non issue.

It's Muslims and Hindus that need to learn to have tolerance. If they're ever going to be capable of that, then toughening them up with this film is a start.

@Bill R There are some people on this forum, it seems, have a personal axe to grind. Firstly, Ron Banerjee DOES NOT REPRESENT THE VAST MAJORITY OF HINDUS. Secondly, the vast majority of Muslims DO NOT SUPPORT THE PERSECUTION OF NON MUSLIMS. Thirdly why do some people feel the need to cause problems. What does the moral character of Mohammed matter to me, as a non Muslim. If Muslims find dogs offensive, why deliberately parade them en masse in front of their Mosques? As a non Muslim it is my right to walk my dog wherever it is allowed on public property. But why insult them by making such an obviously hateful demonstration? But I know that my words will fall on many deaf ears and eyes, because they are deaf and blind with hatred.

For those of you who call themselves followers of the Lord Jesus Christ, I ask you again, WWJD?
