Peel Region to close 12 childcare centres
Hundreds of parents in Peel Region could be stuck with no one to look after their kids while they're at work.
A dozen childcare centres will shut down over the next 2 years, after Thursday's regional council vote.
As many as 700 families currently have children in those centres, with those spots being subsidised
All-day kindergarten could be the solution for some parents, once the program is completely phased by September 2014.
But others, especially parents who work at night, will have to find another way.
The move will save Peel Region $12 million every year.
Region officials say they will use the money to create other subsidized childcare spots in private centres, both for- and non-profit.
