Bradley Cooper romcom takes TIFF's top prize
Silver Linings Playbook just got a boost in the Oscar race.
The romcom starring Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence & Robert De Niro has been named audience favourite at the Toronto International Film Festival. Ben Affleck's political thriller Argo was a close 2nd.
TIFF movie goers have a pretty good knack for predicting smashes. Past audience award winners The King's Speech, Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire & Slumdog Millionaire all picked up a bunch of Academy Awards.
Best Canadian feature prize went to the gender-bending love story Laurence Anyways directed by Xavier Dolan. Keep a Modest Head, a mind-bending look at surrealist Jean Benoit was named best Canadian short film.
There was a tie for best debut Canadian feature: Brandon Cronenberg's stylized Antiviral & Jason Buxton's dark drama Blackbird.
The Colin Farrell comedy Seven Psychopaths was named favourite Midnight Madness film.
Jared Leto's rock doc Artifact won favourite documentary.
