Ford Brothers Fire Back on Season Debut of "The City"

Posted By: Siobhan Morris · 9/17/2012 6:30:00 AM

The Ford brothers wasted no time in their return to Newstalk 1010 tackling the controversy around the mayor's football team.

Rob Ford has been accused of using his staff & city resources like phones & cars to help run the football team he coaches.

The mayor insists his staffers volunteer their time outside work hours to help out with the Rexdale Raiders.

On his show The City, Rob Ford blasted reporters who chased the story saying "Don't go and slam my staff when you know they can't defend themselves.

He also criticized member of the media who staked out a football practice last week.  He says their presence has rattled his team.

The mayor scoffed "If I don't get re-elected for helping out kids, I feel sorry for this city.".

Councillor Doug Ford suggested accusations against his brother amounted to an attack on under-privileged kids. "There's no one that helps black youth more than Rob Ford", says Doug.

The city councillor sprang to his brother's defence when a caller asked the mayor how he squares using city resources for football with his "stop the gravy train" mantra.

Doug Ford became angry, suggesting the caller do research & stand outside City Hall to add up how many hours a day the mayor's staff work.
