Union Boss Says TTC Workers Could Engage in 'Work-to-Rule'
TTC Union President Bob Kinnear says his members may be looking at a work-to-rule campaign if the service approves a move to contract cleaning jobs.
Kinnear was on Friendly Fire Friday night and confirmed that work-to-rule is an option, saying nothing was off the table.
He suggested that there could be delays if a work-to-rule campaign is brought in.
There are other options for the union should councillors approve the outsourcing plan; Kinnear says they may refuse to sign a joint letter to the Ministry of Labour that would exempt workers from a standard 48 hour week allowing them to work up to 64 hours.
It's a move Kinnear says could cost the service $10-13 Million.
The TTC says they plan to save $4.29 Million annually by contracting out the jobs. Spokesman Brad Ross notes no union jobs would be affected by the move.
