Anti-Islam film has Cdn. Coptic Christian fearing for life

Posted By: Newstalk 1010 · 9/22/2012 4:31:00 PM

A Canadian Coptic Christian says he fears for his life over accusations he had a hand in an anti-Islamic film posted online.

Egypt has issued an arrest warrant for Nader Fawzy, alleging he was involved in "Innocence of Muslims".  A warrant is out for another Canadian too.

Fawzy denies any connection to the low budget flick, but says he doesn't feel safe now & worries someone will try to kill him or his 2 daughters.

The self-described Coptic activist has spoken out against Egypt's treatment of Coptic Christians.

Fawzy said he wasn't happy that the Canadian government just told him to keep quiet.

Speaking with his MP, Liberal Jim Karygiannis at his side, Fawzy asked for protection.

Freedom trumps good taste. And always should.

People are dying because someone does not like a movie? Really? Are we in the 11th century here, and that includes Canda's leadership ?

The protests are in bad taste, worse really as they only serve to demonstrate a lack of belief in personal liberty and freedom by those who condone or participate.

Call my god whatever you want. Make fun of my mom. I care not because I am not a child and will not play your silly game.

That such intolerance of any other point of view, of the concept of humor in any direction whether in one's own dense of good taster or not, should exist in such widespread fashion is the problem.

Canada and other nations should respond by at least temporarily expelling and pulling every embassy or consulate where that country has even in the slightest degree acknowledged or suggested they condone this protest. And simply state that freedom and tolerance trump bad taste.

If these religious beliefs cannot support basic personal liberty and freedoms then they are a farce.

We need leaders who on a widespread basis make a very clear statement that, yes, this may be in bad taste but so is your protest over it.

@Earl I don't get it? Isn't the rght to protest a part of freedom and liberty? It is the use of force and violence that should be condoned.
