Founder of 'Sam the Record Man' Passes Away
It's the place where many torontonians bought their first 8-Track or cassette.
Sam the Record man was an institution, and the man responsible for founding it, has passed away.
Sam Sniderman and his family opened the iconic Yonge Street location in 1959 and it became a landmark. It wasn't until 2007 that the giant sign and the doors to the business closed for good, making way for Ryerson University to use the building for their own purposes.
A major promoter of Canadian music, Sniderman received the Order of Canada in 1976.
He was also inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame in 1997.
Sniderman was 92.
