Google Launches 'Ocean View'

Posted By: Dave Bradley · 9/26/2012 2:47:00 PM

Starting on Wednesday, Google is adding underwater images to Google Maps.

You no longer have to slip into a wetsuit, and bulky scuba equipment and spend thousands of dollars travelling, to get stunning images of some of the world's most incredible living coral reefs.

You can see fish, manta rays and sea turtles in places like Australia, the Philippines and Hawaii.

Just like you would use Google Maps to find locations on land, you can do the same thing to see what it's like underwater, as some divers say is "a whole 'nother world."

What a cool integration of technologies. Similar to what BlooSee.com is doing for the oceans by geolocating cool ocean places and letting people add photo and video. Can't wait to see the entire ocean mapped our, lol.

This is exciting, I wonder how far down the images will let us see?
