NY Mayor Wants World's Biggest Ferris Wheel
Remember when councillor Doug Ford was trying to get the world's biggest Ferris wheel down at Toronto's eastern Waterfront as part of a huge revitalization? Well, New York is jumping on that idea.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg is pushing to have the world's largest Ferris wheel for the borough of Staten Island. It would be 190 metres tall and carry 1,440 people per ride. It would have 36 pods that will carry about 40 people in each one.
It would be called The New York Wheel and it's part of a larger project consisting of a hotel complex and shopping mall on Staten Island. That in itself, would be 32,516 square feet.
Just like Doug Ford had wanted, Bloomberg wants the wheel to dwarf the London Eye and be higher than the Singapore Flyer, which presently holds the title of world's biggest Ferris wheel.
Right now, there's no proposed date for when the wheel will start spinning.
