VIDEOS: Operation Impact Begins Nationwide
If you're driving to meet family for Thanksgiving dinner this long weekend, remember that O.P.P. are going to be watching area highways very closely.
A nationwide traffic initiative by police services across Canada began Friday morning, as an attempt "to ensure Canada's roads and highways remain among the safest in the world."
The Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police, police services from across Canada and Transport Canada are all involved.
All police officers will be paying particular attention to motorists whose driving behaviours fall into four main categories:
1) drinking and driving
2) failure to use seat belts
3) all aspects related to speeding/aggressive driving
4) distracted driving
It'll mean a high police presence on the streets and highways. It could be considered part crackdown, part education.
