The Union Station revitalization has reached an important milestone the media was invited to see the progress on construction, including the first poured slabs for the new concourse.

The pouring of the slabs is an exciting milestone in the project as the new concourse begins to take shape.

Officials overseeing the project say not only is it on time, but it is on or under budget, something that Toronto Mayor Rob Ford, who was on had for the tour, is pleased with.

"It's music to my ears when you hear that, I've always been fighting for that to make sure that  all the projects come under budget and they are. They're under budget and they're on time."

Phase one of the project, which includes excavating what will be the new shopping concourse and the York Street concourse, will be completed by the end of 2013.  The entire project is set to wrap up at the end of 2016.

The Union Station revitalization is a $640 million, tri-governmental initiative.
