TD loses personal data

Posted By: Siobhan Morris · 10/13/2012 2:06:00 PM

About 1000 Canadians with US accounts at TD Bank could be affected after some data tapes holding personal information were misplaced.

Unencrypted backup data tapes went missing during transport in March & TD has started warning 260 000 customers from Maine to Florida.  Canadian customers will get a letter by next Friday.

The tapes included things like account information & social security numbers.

TD isn't calling this a breach because there's no evidence of any crime.   The company says they aren't aware of any as not aware of any misuse of that information, but they're keeping an eye on the situation.

An internal investigation is underway & police have been given the head's up.

Chief Inspector Jacques Clouseau retires from the French Police force and is head of security at the TD.

    Only explanation that makes sense.
