BRA Day Events Scheduled on Wednesday
Wednesday is Breast Reconstruction Awareness Day (BRA Day), and events have been planned across the country including a meeting here in Toronto.
BRA Day is an initiative designed to promote education, awareness and access for women who may wish to consider post-mastectomy breast reconstruction.
It is a collaborative effort that includes plastic surgeons specializing in breast surgery, plastic surgery nurse specialists, the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, Canadian Society of Plastic Surgeons, medical device industry representatives and breast cancer support groups.
About 20 women will reveal their scars at the Show and Tell lounge at the meeting.
Dr. Mitchell Brown who has performed mastectomies for 17 years and is one of the event's organizers says the experience can be life-changing for women and that many patients aren't given the information they need.
The lounge is being run by the non-profit network, Willow Breast Cnacer Support Canada.
The meeting will be held at the Toronto Reference Library from 6-9 p.m.
