MADD Canada: It's Deplorable
CEO of MADD Canada Andrew Murie spoke with the newsroom, regarding Councillor Ana Bailao's arrest for impaired driving, but also spoke to her announcement that she would plead not guilty when she goes to court on December 3rd.
Murie called the arrest a deplorable act and said there are so many options to avoid driving drunk, especially in Toronto.
He also says when she made her plea, surrounded by other councillors, that it creates the wrong message when it comes to impaired driving.
Murie says what Bailao and those councillors are saying is that 'it's okay to have a bad day, go out and drink and drive and it's a mistake. That's the wrong message'.
He says, especially in a city like Toronto, there's no excuse for driving drunk. There are far too many other options for transportation.
