Peak Electricity Prices To Rise

Posted By: Katie Franzios · 10/17/2012 4:04:00 PM

Peak electricity prices are going up on November 1st according to the Ontario Energy Board (OEB).

However, it says your bills should be going down given off-peak and mid-peak prices will be shrinking.

The peak price will rise 0.1 cents to 11.8 cents/kWh. At off-peak times, the price falls 0.2 cents to 6.3 cents/kWh and the mid-peak price will go down 0.1 cents to 9.9 cents/kWh.

Sine the OEB says most people use 64 per cent of their electricity during off-peak hours, you may save a little when your bill comes in the mail.

This is only the beginning. The rapid increases will not show in the base power costs but in the " Global Adjustment" which is where the extremely high subsidy costs for Wind and Solar will be buried. They are 20 year contracts and much more from these sources are scheduled to come on line in the coming years.
It will be a huge burden on homes and businesses.

It is about time they start to put the proper spread between the on-peak and off-peak prices for electricity to better represent the true cost of what the electricity is. I'm tired of subsidizing people who want to do what they want when they want - user should pay!

They should also move the off-peak start time back to 9 pm instead of the new 7 pm start time that was set last year - we're paying for all those who can't wait an extra two hours to run their dishwashers and clothes dryers.
