Residents Won't Stop the Fight for Clean Trains

Posted By: Katie Franzios · 10/24/2012 4:30:00 AM

Families who live in the Davenport area won't stop their push for cleaner trains on the planned Union-to-Pearson Air-Rail Link that will go through their neighbourhood, even though the legislature is prorogued.

They say the diesel trains just won't cut it. Resident Marnie Bjornson expresses concerns over their push getting derailed, noting she feels and though their voices aren't being heard. She says they've been working on the campaign since 2005.

NDP MPP Jonah Schein is behind a private member's bill to use electric trains instead of diesel. It would have been up for second reading last week but was tossed out with the premier's decision to prorogue.

The Air-Rail Link is expected to be complete by the 2015 Pan Am Games.
