Police Target Distracted Motorists With Project Alert
Toronto police in 32 Division are targeting distracted motorists, in a safety blitz on Wednesday until p.m.
Project Alert takes place on Yonge, between the 401 and Finch, and along Bathurst between Steeles and Finch.
Police say these areas have significant traffic issues, like a high number of crashes, involving vehicles and pedestrians, and congested intersections.
In 2011, in 32 Division, there were 4,497 property-damage collisions and 1,182
personal-injury collisions reported to police. In 2012, so far, there have been 3,109
property-damage collisions and 721 personal-injury collisions.
Transport Canada estimates that automobile collisions cost Canadians approximately $62.7 billion each year. The estimated cost in Ontario is $17.9 billion.
